Need help figuring out how to pass your competition on Google?

You’ve come to the right place.

If you want to pass the competition (without paying for ads)

you need to become a master of search engine optimization (SEO).

Well, not a ‘master,’ but you need to learn the basics, very well.

Here’s the playbook:

  1. Sign-up for a free SEMrush account (click the link for a free account)

  2. Search the best, unbranded keyword that you can (“dentist McKinney,” etc)

  3. Scroll down to the “SERP Analysis” section

  4. See what search result is in first place (they’re all listed there)

  5. Identify what that specific page’s ‘authority score’ is

  6. Identify how many ‘referring domains’ that specific page has

  7. Identify how many ‘backlinks’ that specific page has

Without knowing it, you just created your own SEO playbook.

How? You identified how credible (authority score) your page has to be, and how many referring domains / backlinks you’ll need to pass the competition.

Now, go get other related websites (referring domains) to link back to your website (backlinks).

You’ll need to surpass the amount that your competition has (make sure each site that links back to you has a Domain Rating of at least 30, AKA, “DA 30+”)

As you do this, you’ll notice that your page’s authority score will slowly rise because it’s basically a score that tells how many great backlinks are pointing to a website (not a number, but a score out of 100).

Now that you’re working on surpassing your competitions’ SEO statistics, you need to learn about creating an entire SEO strategy.

Here’s what you need to do:

  1. Create quality content on a regular basis (at least once a week)

  2. Manage your Google Business profile (posts, images, reviews, review responses)

  3. Fix all on-page SEO errors (SEMrush can help you identify these)

  4. Connect your website to Google Search Console and submit your ‘sitemap’ so Google will be reminded to index your pages

It might sound complicated, but SEO is just a process of creating great content, making sure your website doesn’t have any errors, getting quality backlinks to point back to your website, and managing your Google Business profile.

The last step is to watch your website’s progress, ensuring that it’s slowly surpassing all of your competitors for your specific keywords.

SEMrush can also help with that. Just set up ‘keyword position tracking’ and you’ll get weekly emails about changes in your SEO rankings.

Congrats! You’re now an SEO master (kind of).
